“Northern Govs. must put aside their political differences to end this insecurity” Amb. Salisu Bala

A prominent leader in the North, Ambassador Salisu Bala Sulaiman said that were the northern governors to put political differences aside, they could have done what is necessary to make the security situation a thing of the past in northern Nigeria.

The ambassador made the remarks during a programme: ‘Dialogue’, hosted by Liberty TV, Abuja.

According to him, “If you look at how the governors of Katsina and Zamfara States came together despite their political differences, especially on the issue of kidnapping of students of the Government Secondary school Kankara, it is commendable.

He added that, “No governor will tell you that he is unaware about the haven of the terrorists in his State, and therefore, if the whereabouts of these bandits are known, why not use this intelligence in a collaborative manner to crush them?”

“If the other governors in the North can rise up to the challenge and put their political differences aside and look at the problems facing the region, all these issues of insecurity would become history”, he stated.

“Traditional rulers must also be used towards gathering intelligence that will support our security forces in ending these security threats”, he added.

According to him, the huge amount of money spent on security is not being spent properly, because intelligence has to be obtained before the security crisis can be successfully addressed and our northern States’ governments are not giving it the attention it deserves.

“Our governors must work with our traditional rulers to end the security crisis”, Ambassador Bala emphasised.
